These courses are designed for investigators, law enforcement, police officers, analysts and others needing to conduct Intelligence Analysis or OSINT for their organisation.

Intelligence Fundamentals

Intelligence Analysis Tools

Online or Face-to-face

This course will provide the tools needed to produce tactical, operational and strategic intelligence.

You will learn collation, explanatory and futures analysis tools and their application for the production of intelligence for front-line areas and other operational personnel, as well as intelligence for executive staff who deal with strategy, policy and long-term capability development

OSINT Fundamentals

Online or Face-to-face

This course provides the foundation to build Open-Source Intelligence Skills. This is intelligence produced after identifying, collecting and analysing publicly available information.

You will learn the basics of OSINT – what it is and what it is not, as well as essential skills to conduct open-source intelligence investigations. The course provides a focus on people, images and mapping, although this can be tailored to suit organisational needs.

Note: this training is not designed to teach ‘undercover’ online tradecraft (such as creating digital personas and actively engaging people online) or counterintelligence techniques used by law enforcement professionals.

II. Advanced Courses

These courses focus in more detail on strategic intelligence analysis, and threat and risk. Each course includes practical examples, and we can provide mentoring and coaching support after the training is finished, so that you can successfully implement the skills you have learned.

These courses are designed for staff needing to conduct strategic Intelligence Analysis, or threat and risk assessments, for their organisation.

Each course can also be tailored for managers of staff conducting this work to provide familiarisation and assist with informed tasking and coordination.

Advanced Intelligence Analysis Tools

Online or Face-to-face

This course provides information designed to support executive decision-making in areas of strategy, policy and long-term capability development.

You will learn how to look beyond operations and front-line issues to identify trends and issues that may impact your organisation, and how to form a strategic assessment. This intelligence can support planning and resource allocation, environmental scanning, as well as reform strategies.

Threat and Risk

Online or Face-to-face

The concepts of threat and risk are often intertwined. This course will provide a comprehensive grounding in threat and risk as they relate to areas such as law enforcement and policing, crime prevention and reduction, amongst other areas.

You will learn the difference between the concepts of threat and risk, and how to undertake threat and risk assessments for tactical, operational and strategic threats. It will also cover threat metrics – how to measure threat and risk.

III. Development Courses

Working with Graphic Material

Online or Face-to-face

Graphic material refers to any material (narrative, text, visual, online and/ or in-person) that depicts human and/or animal suffering or threat of suffering. Over time, exposure to this material can cause harm, including vicarious trauma, burnout and other issues.

This course is for staff who are exposed to graphic material, usually in the context of law enforcement, policing or investigations, including humanitarian work. It can also be provided to managers of staff working with this content, to support longevity and risk mitigation strategies.

You will learn what constitutes ‘graphic content’, why and how we react to it, and common reactions to this exposure. The course also teaches how to prevent harm from exposure to graphic content, the importance of strategies to manage this exposure and support mapping.

It is based on an understanding of neuroscience and provides theory that can be understood in practice.

Digital Security Training

Online or Face-to-face

Digital Security is how we protect ourselves online while we are conducting intelligence analysis work.

This course is for investigators, law enforcement, police officers, analysts and others needing to conduct intelligence analysis for their organisation. It can also be provided to managers or staff responsible for developing assets, policies and procedures in this area.

You will learn more about the basics of your online footprint, threats and risks when accessing information online, and mitigation strategies.

The course is constantly updated to remain current, and includes practical examples tailored to your industry.

Critical Thinking and Writing Skills

Online or Face-to-face

Critical Thinking is the analysis of information and the ability to form a judgement or assessment in support of decision-making. It is a crucial skill for any intelligence analyst or staff member working in investigations, policing, strategy and/or policy.

While most OSACO training focusses on building skills, this course provides staff with an opportunity to consider who they are, how they think and to understand how they perform under pressure – all of which promotes better analysis, teamwork and critical thinking.

This course is for investigators, law enforcement, police officers, analysts and others needing to conduct intelligence analysis for their organisation.

You will learn what you as an individual bring to the task of analysis, including a look at the influence of personality and preferred thinking styles. This course also examines the issue of bias and teaches practical techniques to mitigate bias in our analysis.

It considers the working environment, how it can impact on thinking and judgement, and focusses on the phenomenon of uncertainty and how this influences the analytical function.

The final session centres upon the selection and application of intelligence analysis tools and techniques to support analysis and critical thinking.
